Times Square in New York is traditionally thought of as the ultimate New Year’s Eve party, but because of the normally warm weather, there are many New Year’s Eve parties to consider in the Sunshine State. Here are just a few of the bigger parties to consider this year or in the future:

  • Orlando – Downtown comes alive with the annual Orange Ball Drop, fireworks and parties at all the bars along Church Street!!
  • Jacksonville – The New Year’s Eve celebration in Jax includes the Gator Bowl Parade and fireworks at midnight in the water off Jacksonville Landing!!
  • Cocoa Beach – The annual Party at the Pier celebration takes place at the world famous Cocoa Beach Pier with live music and entertainment at all 5 of the Pier restaurants!!
  • Miami Beach – Ocean Drive is officially renamed Orange Drive for the festivities leading up to the Orange Bowl game. New Year’s Eve in South Beach will feature celebrities hosting parties in many of the nightclubs, as well as the “Jam on the Sand” event if you’re not into the club scene!!
  • St. Petersburg – First Night is an annual extravaganza in its 16th year, taking place at several locations throughout St. Pete, featuring family friendly events including tours, live entertainment, and fireworks at midnight!!

So if you’re in Florida on vacation for the holidays, or a Florida resident looking for something to do New Year’s Eve, this should give you some guidelines for where some of the biggest parties will be happening!!

With former players making their mark in the NFL, like Brandon Marshall, Kevin Smith, and Mike Sims-Walker, not to mention the former great Daunte Culpepper, UCF is quickly gaining national prominence for its football program. A recent showing in their first Top 25 poll, and a possible berth in the upcoming Conference USA title game have added excitement to an already rabid, tailgating fan base. UCF is providing Central Florida football fans an opportunity to watch a top notch Division 1 football team, at a reasonable price, in a beautiful new facility, right in their own backyard. The Knights will host the Conference title game if they sweep their last two regular season games, so keep your grills clean, and get ready to get out to Brighthouse Stadium, do some tailgating, and cheer on the Knights!!IMG_0381 - CopyIMG_0364 - Copy  IMG_0376 - CopyIMG_0365 - Copy (2)

Biketoberfest (Daytona Beach) Oct. 14-17, 2010

The abbreviated October version of spring’s massive Bike Week event. Biketoberfest runs 4 days and draws thousands of bikes and bikers, as well as fun seekers and people watchers. One of my favorite events of the year!!

Fantasy Fest (Key West) Oct. 22-31, 2010

This Halloween celebration draws as many as 100,000 partiers to Key West for parades, parties, body painting, costume contests and so much more. Held the last week in October, don’t miss the party!!

Fiesta in the Park (Orlando) Nov. 6-7, 2010

Beautiful Lake Eola Park in Downtown Orlando is the location for this festival featuring music, arts & crafts, and lots of great food. The famous landmark Lake Eola Fountain is back on after a lightning strike in August of 2009 knocked it out of commission.

IMG_5716IMG_5709 Begun as a roadside attraction in 1949 by Owen Godwin, and still owned by his family today, Gatorland, located between Orlando and Kissimmee, will take you back to the simpler days of Central Florida attractions. Thousands of alligators and crocodiles inhabit the 110 acre theme park and wildlife preserve, known as the “Alligator Capital of the World”. Take a stroll along the boardwalk overlooking the breeding marsh, check out some alligator wrestling or watch them being fed in Gator Jumparoo. Gatorland offers families a glimpse into “Old Florida” at very reasonable prices.IMG_3086 IMG_3091 IMG_2154 IMG_3098 IMG_3100 IMG_3101IMG_3128 IMG_5707

IMG_5840 Educational exhibits, exhilarating thrill rides, and funny and inspiring shows. Opened in Orlando in 1973, SeaWorld has evolved into the complete entertainment package. Famous for the Shamu killer whale spectacular, there is much more to explore and experience at SeaWorld. Thrill seekers will love the Manta and Kracken rollercoasters, and the Journey to Atlantis splashdown boat ride, while less adventurous guests will not want to miss the trademark Shamu show and the Clyde and Seamore Take Pirate Island show. Dolphin Cove, Penguin Encounter and Shark Encounter are just a few of the exhibits featuring marine animals from around the world. So if you’re looking for a full day of fun and excitement for the whole family, check out SeaWorld!!
